Arapahoe Basin Ski Area and Loveland Ski Region fired their snow guns and kicked Colorado’s #RaceToOpen into large gear final night, October one, 2014.
“It takes about two weeks from the start of snowmaking to produce the 18-inch base essential to commence skiing on the very first trail to open, the intermediate Substantial Noon run. Soon after that, we target our snowmaking efforts on the neighboring Ramrod and Sundance runs, and if the snowmaking season is prime, we move to the upper mountain. We hope to see a sturdy early snow season to buttress our efforts and bring the snow to the powderhounds in Colorado!”, mentioned Adrienne Saia Isaac, Marketing and advertising & Communications Manager for Arapahoe Basin.
Just across the Continental Divide, Mother Nature delivered seven inches of snow to the slopes of Loveland Ski Region above the previous 3 days. Not to be outdone, Loveland’s snowmaking group fired up 17 snow guns final evening and started laying down some man-produced flakes of their very own.
“Our first night of snowmaking was quite productive,” said Bobby Babeon, trail maintenance and snowmaking manager. “Mother Nature received us off to a great commence and our group is ready to finish the task. We will maintain producing snow around the clock as circumstances allow and the slopes should be prepared for the 1st skiers and riders in just a couple of weeks.”
It usually takes about two weeks for Loveland’s snowmakers to cover the 1,000 foot vertical run with an 18-inch base for opening day. Last season Loveland Ski Region started making snow on September 27 and opened on October 17. Loveland is expecting to open in mid-October.
“While most men and women dream of a white Christmas, right here at Loveland we are centered on a white October,” explained John Sellers, marketing and advertising director. “The organic snow we acquired gave us a bit of a head start this year and now our skilled snowmakers are chipping in to put together the slopes for opening day. We search forward to starting up the lifts for all the skiers and snowboarders that have patiently created it through yet another extended summer.”
